Why We Do What We Do: Angie’s StoryMany of those who have used Timeshare Exit Team’s service originally heard about us from one of our friendly Events Coordinators. Over the past several years, we’ve been able to speak with people from all walks of life at various events throughout North America. We’ve heard your stories and we are thankful to the thousands of people who have trusted us with successfully facilitating your timeshare exit. What many people might not know is that many of us at Timeshare Exit Team have had stories similar to yours! We’ve asked Angie, one of our Events Coordinators, to share her story of how she originally discovered Timeshare Exit Team and why she is so passionate about meeting and helping people from across the country.
As a kid from a lower middle-class family whose parents owned a timeshare, growing up I got to experience all the benefits of those yearly vacations. It wasn’t until later in life that I saw the strain it put on my parents’ finances, and subsequently their marriage. Everyone makes mistakes in their lifetime, but this was a whopper. What they thought would be an investment and a fine gift to their children when they were gone, ended up being a financial burden around their necks that threatened bankruptcy. So, they began to research ways to rid themselves of this debt-inducing timeshare. A decade of trying to dump it and being scammed three times, close to $4,000 of my parents’ hard-earned money was wasted on companies promising to help.
You can imagine our skepticism as they heard a commercial on our local radio station about Timeshare Exit Team. A bit jaded by the whole industry, but desperate, they scheduled the meeting and were immediately impressed by our Ohio regional consultant, Mike Heckerman. A hardworking family man like my father, Mike answered their questions and calmed their anxieties. They decided to begin the process and swear to this day that it was the smartest decision they ever made. It took 11 months for Timeshare Exit Team to fully exit my parents from their timeshare contract. We knew the timeframe varied and could have taken longer for certain cases, but we were patient and trusted the process. “An answer to prayer and refreshing change of course compared to the years of dealing with shady salesmen, scam-artists, renters, and cold-callers” they said.
So how did I begin working with Timeshare Exit Team? It was actually Mike who did the initial outreach. He was professional, warm, knowledgeable, and kind. I knew from that first meeting that I wanted to work for this company. I wanted to meet more people like him, and I was not disappointed. They took me on as their Midwest Marketing & Events Coordinator, and I’ve been a grateful employee ever since.
My family was able to come together and make it through, but many families are not so fortunate. Being the first point of contact with potential clients around the US, I get to see and hear all their experiences face-to-face. Because of this I have heard many heartbreaking stories on my travels. I have heard of some nightmare situations: declining health and increasing medical bills, banks taking leans out on homes, scammers taking advantage of the elderly, kids dropping out of school and getting extra jobs just to help the family make ends meet. People are aching for the services that Timeshare Exit Team provides, but sometimes the skepticism within the industry is too strong to reverse. Those are the lost opportunities I truly regret. It feels good to help someone. Once you get a taste of helping someone, you want that financial freedom for everyone.
This skepticism is understandably powerful. I realize how paying someone to get rid of something you paid a small fortune for could sound like just another scam. So the one thing I wish more people knew about the timeshare industry in general is just how poor the secondary market is, and how rife with scams it really is. I want to warn them of all the risks they take when trying to sell their timeshare through listing companies. I want to highlight all the red flags for them so they know what to look for and how to navigate the industry. But mostly I want them to know that they have someone who will go to bat for them. There is hope, and Timeshare Exit Team offers that way out.
